SOME LITTLE HOME REMEDIES.

today has been a day of rest around our little home. my chest has been tight, very congested and my body is so very tired from fighting so hard. i try to use home remedies whenever possible and thanks to some extensive pinterest searching, these little remedies have been helping me as of late. aside from the sweet mint tea constantly on rotation in our keurig of course.

i adapted this recipe from maggie's cough remedy that i found on pinterest, only i multiplied everything by four. when i make any diy project i like to make extra to have for later and this little recipe stays just fine in the refrigerator.

Homemade Mucinex Syrup/Witch's Brew

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper.
1 teaspoon grated ginger (i used fresh).
4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar.
8 tablespoons water (preferably filtered).
4(or more!) tablespoons honey (preferably organic & local).

* dissolve cayenne & ginger in the apple cider vinegar & water.
*add honey & shake well.
* take one tablespoon as necessary for cough, sore throat or congestion.
*always shake before using to remix ingredients.

don't get me wrong, this stuff tastes absolutely terrible. however immediately after taking it i started to feel better. i used a ton of honey because i am such a wuss when it comes to spicy things. so if you can stand the heat stick with four tablespoons. the cayenne helped my nose and the rest of the ingredients helped my chest instantaneously. mike refuses to go near it, and started lovingly calling it my own little "witches brew" saying i just need eye of newt and it will be complete.

i also made this candied lemon recipe but am waiting for it to cool and well, congeal.

super, super simple recipe right here. just cut up some lemons, add honey until  and let it do it's magic. the longer it is in the refrigerator the better it works. just take a spoonful of the marmalade and add it to a cup of hot water.

have you heard of preserving lemons by brining them too? i recently watched a barefoot contessa episode where ina's friend gail was making a moroccan tajine which utilized them and now i am fascinated. it looks like i will be buying a bag of lemons soon!
